"#5 – The Hierophant
If your tarot number adds up to 5, your personality and soul is represented by the Hierophant.
Grounded and firm in your spiritual convictions, people look to you to help them with their important decisions. You’re often seen as a moral authority and it’s a role you relish.
Family, tradition and practicality are highlighted with the Hierophant energy, as is a highly attuned sense of the divine. You spend a great deal of time trying to bring it down to earth for the rest of us to learn from.
At times unyielding, you’re sense of right and wrong is firmly defined. When asked to make judgement, the Hierophant rarely shies away from the challenge.
The Hierophant is the soul symbol for the Temperance personality."

The Hierophant in the tarot is regarded as the man of spiritual authority
The Hierophant, also known as The High Priest can be rather complex.
He is an official interpreter of sacred mysteries, and is known as the male counterpart of the High Priestess.
In my book Life Love Tarot, I talk about ritual and tradition, which are both associated with the Hierophant, but not limited to him.
If you own a deck of Rider and Waite Cards please pull out both the Emperor and the Hierophant. The colour comparison seems similar. But are they?
Personality is the key to the distinctive character or qualities within the two cards.
Emperor: Man of earth based success.
Hierophant: Man of spiritual or religious authority.
Red, grey, white and golden yellow are noticeable colours throughout both cards. They dress in red robes, sit on a throne and wear a golden crown.
The grounding effect of the Emperor is illustrated at his feet, which are on the grey cement floor.
The Hierophant’s feet are white and placed on a raised red platform. His undergarment is also white, which is comparable to the Magician
He has a raised hand pointing to the divine.
Look carefully and you will see the Hierophant has a blue collar around his neck and blue under his vestment. Why do you think this is?
Communication through the arcana of the Hierophant has a great deal of numerology influence, and is hard to separate from the colour association. This is one element of what makes the same colour on different cards, ‘different’!
Look at the gold crowns on both the Emperor and the Hierophant.
The Emperor has red rubies in his crown as an indication of association with the earth.
The Hierophant’s gold crown is a triple gold crown of trefoils or three-lobed ornamentations.
The first row of five signify the five senses.
The second row of seven correspond to the seven main charkas and the seven original planets. (Seven is also the number of the mystic.)
The third and top row as well as his staff indicate the three states of consciousness, and with the top knob representing the Source/God.
White trimmings attached to his gold crown are falling down behind his ears. This represents the ability to hear messages of purity and wisdom.
We also see the trinity of crosses down the white strip on his tunic.
Two crossed keys, which are gold illustrate a key to heaven (super-conscious) and a key to earth (sub-conscious).
Notice Two kneeling priests in different robes!
One priest has a robe with red roses of desire, and the other has a robe of purified desires with the white lilies on blue.
Notice a shade of red on their heads.
Both need to divert energies of primitive impulses into higher activity.
The pale grey background is a blending of equal parts of black and white resulting in wisdom and complete balance."
